Hello, we are a family from Germany (Bavaria) with 3 kids ( 2 girls 14 + 12 years old and a 7 year old boy). As every year we want to continue our good old tradition of sending wishes for the NEW YEAR to other families in the world. Since two hours we are listening to the radio, which broadcasts every full hour about the counttries, which actually welcomes the NEW YEAR. Today we will have a party at home with some friends. Outside we have only some snow - the temperature is about 2 degress celsius ( 36 degree fahrenheit). Normally it is colder and at mitnight all the neighbours will meet in streets with a glass champagner to welcome the new year. We have found your family homepage by the search engines. We wish you ALL THE BEST and GOOD LUCK for 2005! :-) Perhaps you can answer and tell us about your sylvester traditions or celebrations. Your family Hartl

Friends of ours, originally from S.A. have recently gained citizenship in the UK. They are over the moon. Only two complaints they have: missing friends & family and British weather! We got them work with our pest control business 3 years ago and they are still there today.

Hello, I have a dear set of friends in SA who want to immigrate to the US. I have asked my corporate Attorney for assistance, but she hasn't been able to find anyone worthwhile as yet. As they are so excited to co ship. We'll get there one day. We have been here since January of 1999 and have found it very difficult to make friends here, especially where we live, but have not yet given up. We have just had our finger prints done and are praying it does,nt take another year or two, before we hear anything again. We are hoping to move one day to an area where there are other South Africans, and be able to make some friends and just drop for coffee or a braai now & then. We really do miss our old culture. My 20 year old son finds it difficult to make and find genuine friends and is hoping to find a South African chat site or a website where he can make a few friends who understand his culture, and ways. Any ideas? We would like to meet and make friends in other states. Shane

Congratulations John, Esme & son on becoming US citizens. I was wondering how you guys were doing the other day and decided to try a search on the internet to find your site. Then saw the great news! So happy for you all! We've come a long way in this wonderful country, we're not even close to receiving our greencards, but we are holding on and looking forward to the day we can join you as American citizens. Take care, EsmeK

Groete Madie

What a small, small world!!! I went to Carel du Toit too. You must have been a year behind me. I was only there for one year. Let's see... in 1982 I was in Std 8 there. I married Jorge (much later of course) who studied Electronic engineering at PE tech too. We also left SA. We're living in Brazil right now, but will soon (hopefully be moving north... to Canada, tho the family wants us to move to the US). Do get in touch with me if you can. It would be nice to chat. I don't see a contact address on your site.

Thanks for being so organised with your website! It's great to see other PE residents ARE here in Austin. I moved here 2 years ago (married a Texan) and have EVENTUALLY settled into a job and a partial American Lifestyle. I was thinking of joining the social club here in Austin but never got around to it. Anyway - just wanted to say hi and thanks and see if there are any upcoming events I could check out, Beth p.s. I'm also a MK consultant - hope it's going well Esme :)

Hi I found your website on the net totally by accident this evening - but it was really interesting tp go through it, and many of our experiences have been similar to yours (my husband was transferred here 2 years ago). We are also SA'ns - currently in the Bay Area and can certainly vouch for the ridiculous cost of housing here. Good luck! Nice to see our countrymen making a go of it!

Hello! I also read your story in the LOG and wanted to tell you that I'm really excited for you guys to come here! I know what moving around is like and how hectic it can be even months afterwords and if you guys need any help with anything, please email me and I'd be glad to offer whatever assistence I can. Also, I sort of have a connection with other South Africans because the guy I am dating right now moved from South Africa to North Carolina about two years ago (I know, long distance relationship :( sad.) His dad was a preacher in several places throughout South Africa and I'd love to see if you know him or have heard of him. Well, hope to hear from you via email and congratulations again on your citizenship!!!

Very refreshing story and web site - Great job ! I came to the States 5 years ago . It was hard in the beggining , but the reward was well worth it . I now work for a good company , I met my wife over here and we have a wonderfull little boy . It is definately a lot easier to become middle class here in the states than SA . A challenge anyone who wants to take a risk to go for it. At worst you can only fail , which is OK . Sincerely , Expat .
