We enjoyed sharing your experiences as we know what a daunting task it is to leave your country of birth. We are "old" Lowvelders (Nelspruit) and have visited Austin and San Antonio on a number of occasions and were very impressed. We are hoping to move down that way in the not too distant future - as soon as our "green cards" are finalized. Kindest Regards, John & Linda

I ran across your website in the 'Family PC Fun' in the funny papers. I thought it would be interesting to read about your family, why you came here and what you had to go through. I was born in Idaho, raised in Oregon. We have lived in San Diego,California; Seattle, Washington; Fort Lauderdale, Flordia, and now just outside of Dallas Taxas. Your pictures of the Oklahoma area were extraordinary thank you doing such a nice job. I am going to Oregon next month to get away from the heat. Oregon is much cooler. Well I just wanted you to know your website is AWESOME.

I recently stubled upon your webpage and I admire your courage of entering a new world. It must have been difficult leaving the country you were born in. I see you immigrated in 1996 already. So you're like almost American at the moment. Hope you still vote for the Spring Bokke. Kind Regards Marinus

Hey John. Strange paths in a way did a search for Steytlerville farm on google and came up with your site. I think the search picked up the above words from your site where you indicate you stayed with your parents for a week before leaving. As it turns out, your site is of great interest to me because the wife and I have won a DV2003 green card place potentially (ie one of the 100 000 selected). I presently reside in PE - on the beachfront opposite the pier as it happens. Doing an MCDBA certification while I am out here in SA - although I have found the sea to be a good distraction over the last while - lots of fishin', kayakin', kite surfin' etc to be done and so little time... My father in law has relatives that farm in the Steytlerville district (he is a Coleske, his nephew Hannes Rudman farms just below the Cockscomb). Oddly enough, my father in law and I are off for a cocktail evening at the PE Nissan dealership tommorrow night - we both drive Nissan bakkies. We have lived in London for the last five years and did a trip out to the States (California, Oregon, Idaho, Utah, Arizona, and back to California) which we enjoyed so much we figured we would enter the lottery (also a last minute affair) and it looks like our luck is in. We are planning to turn up in Atlanta Georgia initially (if and when our Green Card is issued) and do some travelling until we find a place that suits us - We enjoy the outdoors and so I suspect this is going to be an integral feature of our chosen destination. Austin sounds like a good place to include on our itinerary - lots of South Africans by the sound of it with plenty water and a good climate. Thanks for an informative website - we have a 3 month old boy, Conor - looks like he may well be following a similar path to your boys, and learning baseball instead of cricket and rugby. Good luck. I was browsing and came across your site. I was (funny enough) looking for something like the Springbok club). I find your story very interesting. Few of my South African friends have been fortunate enough to win the lotto too. I came here in 1988 as an au pair. Went back to S.A then came back in 1990 to marry an American. It's 11 years later, I have three children and My husband has left me and wants a divorce so right now I'm pining for South Africa. I just want to talk to someone with a similar background to me. I have been to Austin, Texas many times as that is where my mother in law lives in Lakeway over looking Lake Travis. I live in Alameda which is east of san Francisco Bay. If you know of any South Africans close by here it would be great to chat to them. Allison Austin

Hi y'all, loved your web pages - especially the photo of Domino/Dolly the dolphin at the PE oceanarium. As you can see I live across Lake Travis from Lago Vista, in the neighborhood of Briarcliff. And I went to high school in PE, studied at UPE and Rhodes (Journalism), lived in PE for a while (in between living in London and New York), worked in the Dept of Maths and Physics at the PE Technikon (I'm sure you had to do maths for your diploma!) and my parents still live in summerstrand, opposite Pearson High School (my old alma mater). And I know exactly where Steytlerville is! Would love to hear from you if you have the time. I've been living here for nearly a year now and I love it. Hope to hear from you soon Groot PE groete (don't you miss Hobie Beach?) Juliette
